Quilting Cruise

Quilts are more than just a way of keeping warm. A quilt often has a story stitched right into the fabric. Today it’s a $3.76 billion business with more than 16 million active quilters participating in the craft every year.

It is said that quilting started in ancient Egypt and it flourished later when pioneers needed the quilts to keep warm. Today, all around the world, folks of all ages and genders are gathering together to pick their favorite fabrics and create beautiful masterpieces. There are quilting conferences, camps, festivals, retreats and now cruises.

If you love to quilt or always wanted to, save the date for the second annual Row by Row Experience Cruise Adventures, presented by Quilt Passions and A.S.K. About Travel. This one-week event will take place from June 23 to July 1, 2017, and will depart from Honolulu, the beautiful state capital of Hawaii.

Oahu Quilt Shops:  The night before the cruise begins, you will join fellow quilters at the historic Ilima Hotel, located only a short distance from Waikiki Beach. You’ll visit four Oahu quilt shops before embarking onto Norwegian Cruise lines for a combination cruise and quilting adventure.

Maui Quilt Shops:  You will arrive in Kahului, which is the retail center for Maui residents with its malls and major department stores, and visit two quilting stores.

Hilo, Hawaii Island Quilt Shops and Volcano Visit:   You’ll also visit Hilo for stops at three quilting stores and, since all quilters need a break now and then, you will enjoy a two-and-a-half hour visit to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Here you will see Kīlauea and Mauna Loa, two of the world’s most active volcanoes.

Kona, Hawaii Island Quilt Shops and Quilting Class:  Now that your blood is pumping from the volcanic visit, you will enjoy three more stops the next day in Kona, a retail district on the big island of Hawaii.  To improve your quilting skills, there are optional classes available to take and you will have plenty of opportunities to talk to other quilters to learn how they create their own quilts. You might pick up some great suggestions for your own!

Lihue, Kauai Quilt Shops:  The last 2 days of your cruise will find you in Lihue, Kauai and on your way to the shops in Kapaa and Lihue for your last opportunity to collect those precious row pattern and to experience the beauty that only Kauai can offer.  You can go zipling or canoeing or just relax on the white sand beaches before your return to your everyday lives.
